Angel investors in Ghana: networks, deals and how to pitch
Ghana is a smaller funding market than Nigeria or Kenya, but it has one of Africa’s oldest organised angel structures. This guide covers the Ghana Angel Investor Network and its member networks, how Ghanaian angels invest, the rules on raising from the public, and how to pitch.

Who are the angel investors in Ghana?
The short answer
Ghana’s angels are organised around the Ghana Angel Investor Network (GAIN), the umbrella body for angel networks in the country. Its members include the Accra Angels Network and the Ladies Angel Network.
- Ghanaian startups raised about 56 million USD in 2025, eighth in Africa by capital, but fifth by the number of startups raising 100,000 USD or more (citing Africa: The Big Deal).
- GAIN was launched in 2011 by the Venture Capital Trust Fund and is hosted by Impact Investing Ghana (GAIN).
- Typical Ghanaian angel cheques run 25,000–100,000 USD, and syndicates can pool 200,000–400,000 USD per deal (Accra Street Journal, October 2026).
- Raising from the public online must go through a licensed platform under the SEC’s 2024 crowdfunding guidelines (SEC Ghana).
- Revise Angels is open to experienced founders, operators and investors, with free membership for life for the first 30.
Ghana’s startup funding market
Ghanaian startups raised about 56 million USD in 2025, according to Africa: The Big Deal. That placed Ghana eighth in Africa by total capital, but fifth by the number of ventures raising at least 100,000 USD (GNBCC, February 2026). As in Nigeria, there are more early companies than early money, which is where angels matter most.

How Ghanaian angels invest
GAIN’s model is simple: members choose the companies that interest them, and those companies are introduced to pitch. GAIN also says it seeks at least one board seat in companies it invests in, so expect angels to want a say in governance (Accra Street Journal). Cheques of 25,000–100,000 USD are typical for individual angels, larger than the African average, where more than 90% of individual angels invest under 25,000 USD (ABAN survey).
Tax and rules angels in Ghana should know
- Crowdfunding needs a licensed platform. The Securities and Exchange Commission issued crowdfunding guidelines in 2024, with UNCDF, covering platforms, issuers and foreign platforms that raise from the Ghanaian public (SEC Ghana). Private angel rounds are structured differently, so take legal advice.
- Gains on unlisted shares are taxed. Ghana taxes gains on unlisted shares, and the rates have changed in recent budgets. Check the current rate with the Ghana Revenue Authority or a tax adviser before you invest or sell.
Not tax or legal advice. Confirm the current rules with a Ghanaian adviser before you invest.
How to pitch angel investors in Ghana
- Go through the networks. GAIN and its member networks screen companies and introduce them to interested angels.
- Expect governance questions. Angels may ask for a board seat, so be ready to explain how you run the company and report.
- Bring traction. With cheques of 25,000–100,000 USD, angels want early revenue or clear evidence of demand.
- Think in syndicates. A lead angel who backs you can pull in others to reach 200,000–400,000 USD.

Founding-member terms
We want members who back founders with money and time, not a large list of names. These terms are how we keep the network active:
- Verifiable experience. At least one of: you founded or co-founded a company that reached revenue or raised outside capital; you held a senior operating role (head of a function or above) in a scaling company; or you have invested in at least one startup or private company. We check it through LinkedIn and one reference or document.
- Real tickets. You intend to invest at least 5,000 USD per company, directly or through a syndicate, and to make at least one investment through Revise in your first 12 months.
- Stay active to keep free membership for life. At least one investment through Revise every 12 months, or two in any 24 months, and at least two demo days or pitch sessions a year. Inactive members can rejoin later on the standard terms.
- Mentoring, recommended. Mentoring at least one founder a year is optional, but it is how most members find their best deals.
- Confidentiality and conduct. Keep what founders share confidential, declare conflicts of interest, and do not sell paid services to founders through the network.
- Your decision, your diligence. Revise makes introductions and shares what we know. We do not give investment advice or offer securities. Each member decides for themselves, invests directly with the company or through a syndicate vehicle, and confirms they meet the investor rules where they live.
Still being set up. Revise Angels is under development, so these terms may change before the first founding members join. If they do, we will tell you before you commit to anything.
